BC’s Director of the Canadian Tax Payers Federation wants your gas bill in attempt to lobby the government to ax the carbon tax.
Speaking on The Jeff Andreas Show, Kris Sims says it doesn’t matter whether you think you’re paying too much or not enough, she just wants that information.
“To be able to show folks, at least anecdotally, a real person or a real story. Because as we know in media, you can have all the data and stats you want, but unless you actually put a name or an example to that data and stats, it doesn’t really feel real to a lot of people and so that’s why put out the call that way.”
“We’re the canary in the coal mine. As you know, BC was the first jurisdiction in Canada to introduce a carbon tax back and in 2008 and so we’re the guinea pig. So I try to explain this to my colleagues across the rest of the country and to just average people who are just suddenly being shocked by this new tax bill that they’re getting, and explain to them what happened here in BC.”
Sims says most in BC that use natural gas will often say they’re surprised that the fee for the carbon tax on the natural gas bill can sometimes be higher than their usage. “Now that’s usually in the shoulder seasons around fall and spring. What I was really interested in, and I wanted to see the actual math on someone’s bill if they could send it to me, in the deep of winter, in mid-January, what does that still look like.”
Sims doesn’t care if you think your bill is high, low, or in the middle, she wants the information in order to compile a detailed list of data. You can send Sims your gas bill be email ksims@taxpayer.com or by visiting txpayer.com. Your name and address will be protected.
