A storm system hitting B.C.’s coast tomorrow is expected to create challenging driving conditions on area highways closer to Kamloops.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning specifically for Highway 1 in the Fraser Canyon, and a freezing rain warning from Hope to Merritt on the Coquihalla.
Freezing rain is expected to start tomorrow afternoon and could last into Sunday morning, and higher parts of the route could see rain showers instead, according to forecasters. The warning says drivers should put off driving the Coquihalla if possible while there is the risk of freezing rain.
Meanwhile, on Highway 1, the forecast is calling for 10 to 20 centimetres of snow, from early Saturday morning into Saturday afternoon. That system is expected to centered in Boston Bar, with less snow likely to fall in Lytton and areas north. The forecast also says there will be a risk of freezing rain on Saturday night near Boston Bar.
The storm has led to widespread snowfall and winter storm warnings on the southern B.C. coast, as well as as a blizzard warning for the north coast.
