An end is coming to the extreme cold in the Kamloops area this weekend.
Environment Canada’s Bobby Sekhon says we will see some gradual warming into the weekend before seeing plus temperatures on Sunday.
“As we transition into a warmer air mass we can often get some snow. We’re not expecting a whole lot of snow, but Friday night into Saturday is a good chance of snow, might get a couple centimetres. That can be dangerous on the roads when you get snow on top of the frozen ice.”
“We’re switching from what was air from the arctic and more northerly flow to more of a southerly push and so that’s bringing up warmer temperatures. So it is going to be a stark contrast to what we have seen this week.”
Sekhon says we haven’t broken any records over this past few days , but says four straight days of below -20 degrees is a bit unprecedented.
“We saw four straight days of temperatures below -20 since, so that’s been quite exceptional, four straight mornings of -20 or less. And comparing that to last February’s cold snap where we had extended period of cold weather, we didn’t really have that four consecutive days of below -20.”
