A weekend for the ages for the Kamloops Blazers with three wins out of three games.
Dylan Garand stopped all 21 shots for his third shutout of the season as the Blazers beat the Vancouver Giants 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. It’s after a 12-3 win on Friday, and a 9-0 win on Saturday both at home against the Tri-City Americans.
Orrin Centazzo, Logan Stankoven, Libor Zabransky, and Connor Zary all scored on Sunday against the Giants.
Head Coach Shaun Clouston says the performances from some of the club’s top players has been very crucial in games.
“What’s impressive is teams know who they are. You prepare for a game, you look at some video and coaches talk about making sure you are aware of certain players and it doesn’t seem to really matter,” he told NL.
“They battle through that, they face top defense-men, teams try to play them physically, they’ve been able to have a lot of success despite all that”
The three wins extend the Blazers win streak to eight games – they’re unbeaten so far in 2020, and lead the B.C. Division with 63 points, 10 points ahead of the Victoria Royals, who have a game in hand.
Sunday’s game was the second straight shutout for the Blazers after Rayce Ramsay’s 24 save effort on Saturday. Ramsay and Garand both have three shutouts each on the season.
“We’ve got strong goal-tending, we’ve got guys willing to block shots, we’ve got guys that execute well together,” added Clouston, who says the Blazers have many reasons for their success of late.
“We’ve got some very talented players, so you add some structure to the talent and the guys are really zipping the puck around and it’s been really dangerous as of recently”
Next up for the Blazers is a two-game road trip to B.C. Division basement dwellers, Prince George on Friday and Saturday. You can hear both games on Radio NL.
