The Mustard Seed Kamloops is set to reopen their thrift store at 346 Seymour Street this spring.
To facilitate the opening, the organization is accepting donations of gently used clothing, decor, jewelry, and other small household items.
“The Mustard Seed thrift store will be a huge asset to our community,” said Diana Corriveau, who has been hired as the store’s coordinator. “My goal is to get donor’s treasures into loving homes, while generating revenue to provide much needed funds for our Mustard Seed patrons.”
There are also plans to have a coffee shop set up – set to open up later in 2020 – next to the thrift store, with the goal here to also help fund Mustard Seed programs.
“The thrift store will support many programs including a new employment program, which uses employment coaches dedicated to helping people find jobs,” Corriveau added. “The coaches will help clients update their resumes, practice interview skills, and provide the encouragement men and women need to believe in themselves.”
Managing Director Mario Borba says there will also be volunteer and employment opportunities for patrons of the newly launched Men’s Sober Living Facility that opened on Monday.
“Residents can volunteer 9-12 hours per week for the first few months,” noted Borba. “After volunteering for a few months there will be opportunities for them to be employed and all proceeds will either pay salaries or be reinvested in the Mustard Seed programs.”
You can make donations at either of the Mustard Seed locations at 346 Seymour Street (Mon to Fri between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.) or at 181 Victoria Street (Tue to Sat between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.)
