A drug warning has been issued in Kamloops after samples of crystal meth have been found to be laced with fentanyl.
Interior Health regional harm reduction coordinator Jessica Bridgman says two samples of meth that were tested yesterday, at the drug-checking site at ASK Wellness, had fentanyl in them. She says the visual recognition in those cases were white crystals with purple flecks.
“I would say this is a good opportunity in Kamloops to consider, if you are using substances and specifically if you’re using crystal meth, to consider getting it checked.”
Bridgman says it’s not typical to see an opioid mixed with a “stimulant” drug, like crystal meth.
The health authority says to avoid doing different drugs and altogether, and not to use alone. It says for drug users to start will smaller doses.
Naloxone kits are available at ASK Wellness at 433 Tranquille Road, and at Interior Health’s Addiction Services building at 235 Lansdowne Street. IH has supervised consumption sites at 569 Lansdowne Street and at ASK Wellness, on Tranquille Rd.
The drug warning will be in place until Jan. 29.
