Work through the Victoria Street West construction zone is set to resume tomorrow, Jan. 28, according to the city of Kamloops.
Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell says the major paving work was completed last year, as it is mostly landscaping and third-party utility work that remains.
“There’s going to be moving lane closures. They are not obviously going to be in the same spot all the time as the crews pull wire and start setting up to remove the overhead lines,” he told NL.
“Single lane closures sporadically depending on where they are working.”
He says the worst of the traffic congestion is behind us, as the work this year won’t be as impactful on Kamloops as last year.
“I believe March is when we are actually hooking up the businesses and pulling the poles out, that kind of thing. We’re always going to have two lanes of traffic, the closures are short duration, but people will see BC Hydro crews working in the lanes,” Crundwell added.
“They will see landscape crews finishing, taking up lane closures that type of thing. That’s the majority of the work.”
He says crews are pleased with how the project progressed last year, as it’s ahead of schedule.
“We had looked at this as a full two year project. We’re pretty confident now and I can say it that probably by May or June, we’re looking at that for total completion on this project,” said Crundwell.
“We’re starting to see that if we think about these projects and deliver them a little bit differently, that we can do more than we think we can.”
City staff say the 30 km/hr reduced speed zone will be reinstalled until further notice and there will be some delays as work resumes.
