Kamloops City Council is set to take a look at 11 supplemental budget items at Tuesday’s meeting.
Finance Director Kathy Humphrey says they will be presented to council for information and then the public will have about a month to provide input. “Just a council report tomorrow with the recommendation being that council receive it for information. The goal was to get the information out to council and the public so there could be some discussion and invite the public to come to the public budget meeting on February 20th (at Sandman Centre) in advance of when council will make the actual decision which is at the Committee of the Whole meeting on February 25th.”
Nine of the 11 items are proposed are requesting at least some money be spent this year. The 2020 requests total a little over $1.25 million with about $385,000 worth of items being paid for through the tax base.
Humphrey says it has been trying to get council and the public to look at a five year financial plan. “Not all of these items proposed are for 2020. So, some of them are starting in 2021, a few of them are as far out as 2023 or 2024. So what we’re looking for is council to approve the project or process and then we will work towards building or doing or whatever the process is in the three and four years out.”
“That’s kind of what we expect over the next few weeks is to hear concerns or enthusiasm. There are some community requests. The Pickleball team has been working really hard over the last year to increase the number courts which is one the requests that’s there.”
Humphrey says there is also an opportunity for people to provide feedback on this year’s proposed city budget online.
