Two brothers have been charged after stealing trucks and excavators in Kamloops on back-to-back days.
RCMP Corporal Jodi Shelkie says on Jan. 17, 30-year-old David Edward Nicholson was arrested in Ashcroft after being seen driving a stolen Ford truck in Kamloops, hauling a stolen trailer and excavator. Police had tried to pull over him over on the Trans-Canada Highway in Kamloops but Shelkie says he sped off. He now faces charges of possession of stolen property, flight from police and breach of bail conditions.
The next day, Shelkie says 32-year-old Sean Patrick Nicholson was arrested after stealing a flat deck truck and an excavator. He was charged with possession of stolen property.
“I can’t speak to motive in this situation, but in other incidents where people have stolen pickup trucks and excavators or heavy equipment, it’s often for the purpose of getting money. So they’ll sell the equipment to make money.”
Both brothers are in custody awaiting court dates next month.
Shelkie says police also believe the two men may be involved in other vehicle and excavator thefts in Kamloops that haven’t yet been solved.
