The film commissioner with the Thompson-Nicola Regional District says there’s a healthy amount of film work in the Kamloops area.
Vickie Weller says the CBS Series called Twilight Zone about to be filmed in Ashcroft is one of a handful of projects happening in the region.
“We’ll we’ve got about four projects coming in, the TNRD, into the region. So we are actively crewing when they call for help. They’ll all be filming late January, February and into March. So there’s going to be a number of different positions,” she says.
“In terms of investing taxpayer money versus the income that comes in, I think we run about a one-thousand-per-cent return on our investment. Although we don’t get a huge amount of production, it seems to be quite steady. And we’re also seeing an increase of people hiring local.”
Weller says filming in the region remains steady and says there seems to be an increase in companies hiring local people.
“We have enough cast for sure. The crew can be hard, because they want people who are trained. And Vancouver is so busy, so it seems to be who’s trained is working in Vancouver already. So we get a lot of entry-level positions but it’s good to get that experience.”
Officials have confirmed that there is a mini-series Radio Nowhere coming in and a western feature film Deed will be coming to the area in early spring. The TV series Van Helsing is also hoping to return to Kamloops in early spring.
