A 46-year-old man was taken to hospital to be assessed on Saturday after a standoff with RCMP in Savona.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called to help out Kamloops Rural RCMP officers after a man threatened to use a firearm on the Skeetchestn Indian Reserve.
“Because the man was alone in his residence and was known to have firearms, ERT was deployed to the area,” said Shelkie. “When officers arrived on scene, the man refused to come out of his home.”
She says negotiators got in contact with the man who eventually came out of his house unarmed around 8 p.m.
“The firearm was seized by police for safety,” Shelkie noted.
