The Executive Director of the Kamloops Film Society says South Korean dark comedy thriller film Parasite winning Best Picture at Sunday’s Oscars was a big surprise to him
Speaking on NL Newsday, Dusan Magdolen says he expects that will mean more people in Kamloops and elsewhere who are curious to check the movie out for themselves.
“It generally always happens after the Oscars as people sort of get introduced to some films that they weren’t aware of – even ones that don’t win come on people’s radars,” he said.
“But definitely something especially that surprising wins Best Picture, I mean even for it to be nominated was crazy and then for it to win is wild and awesome.”
He noted even Bong Joon-Ho winning the Oscar for Best Director on Sunday was another surprise.
“He seems to be someone that audiences like and that has grown, so it will be interesting to see what his next movie’s are now that he’s known on such a bigger scale,” Magdolen noted.
“But he’s someone that other filmmakers seem to have respected for years.”
The Kamloops Film Society has four showings of Parasite this weekend, and Magdolen expects they’ll all be well attended.
