Kamloops RCMP say two people could face charges after almost $3,000 in cash and 262 grams of drugs were seized during a traffic stop at the motel in Valleyview almost two weeks ago, on Jan. 31.
It was the second drug bust in that part of the city in a span of six days.
In this instance, Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the driver tried to resist arrest, while another passenger was also taken into custody after he tried to help the driver get away.
“What is believed to be cocaine, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine was seized from the vehicle,” Shelkie said. “Also, a data card printer, believed to be used for producing identification was seized from the vehicle.”
Asked about the delay in releasing details of the bust to the public, Shelkie says it’s not uncommon.
“It took [officers] a while to process the drugs and get photos and to weigh the drugs and count the cash and yeah, it just took them a while to get it to me,” she said. “There’s nothing that is untoward or anything like that.”
She says the findings from this investigation will now be forwarded to the Public Prosecution of Canada for consideration of charges.
“If anything we were getting quite a bit of drugs off of the street in Kamloops,” noted Shelkie. “You know depending on what happens in court, these people that are supplying the drugs or at least transporting the drugs, will have hopefully strict conditions put on them that hold them accountable.”
