A proposal to turn one property in Dallas into three separate dwellings was given a big thumbs down by Kamloops City Council for a variety of reasons.
While on the NL Morning News Katy Sinclair said the Chukar Drive property just created too many issues with nearby residents. “The major concerns were there is one access point.”
“Pat Road is the way to get in and out of that neighbourhood, you’ve got the railway. There was some concern about fire safety, traffic.”
Those weren’t the only concerns “It was a corner lot, so having a blind corner where you’re having a lot of children playing was another concern and there were also concerns about flooding and ground water issues.”
She said “Part of (the city’s) Kam Plan is definitely increasing density in the urban core. According to Kam Plan, Dallas is now designated as urban and so you would expect that we want to see that density but for a variety of reason which were clearly explained last night at the public hearing, it just didn’t seem like the right kind of density in that neighbourhood at this time.”
“I say to folks, you don’t necessarily own the street in front of you so, parking. You don’t own your view. I mean neighbourhoods are going to change but in this case council voted unanimously against this proposal.”
While they did receive a few letters in favour of the proposal, but the vast majority of the one council received were dead set against the project.
