B.C.’s Transportation Minister says she anticipates more ride-sharing companies will be approved that will end up coming to Kamloops.
So far only Kabu-Ride has a license to operate here, and it says that expansion into Kamloops is contingent on getting enough drivers. However, Claire Trevena is confident ride-sharing will get to the Tournament Capital.
“Absolutely more options will arrive. I don’t know about the two international players, Uber and Lyft, but we definitely want to see other operators throughout the Lower Mainland, throughout the Interior, over on the Island,” she told NL News.
“We have people who are applying, we still have more than 20 outstanding applications.”
Trevena says she has confidence in the decision making by the Passenger Transportation Board, which has denied ride-sharing licenses to more businesses than it has approved.
“I think one of the things I’ve been hearing up until now, is how slow the applications were to be processed,” noted Trevena. “And that, I believe, is because the Passenger Transportation Board has been extremely thorough. And all their decisions have been publicly accessible.”
She says if the PTB denies an application, it’s probably for a number of reasons including whether the company is fit and proper, and whether the proposal is a sound business proposition, among others.
