Kamloops RCMP say four impaired drivers in Kamloops were given roadside suspensions in a five hour span on Family Day Monday.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the incidents between 8:30 p.m. last night and 2:30 a.m. this morning, are unusual for a Monday night in the city.
“These drivers, they are going to be facing significant fines,” she said. “They have the loss of their driver’s licence for 90 days, and their vehicles were all impounded. And so, this is just the time when we want to remind motorists that you need to plan and make your plan on how you are going to get home if you’ve been drinking.”
Shelkie says the incidents were spread out across the city, and she says she’s not sure if the long weekend caused the spike in the number of impaired drivers last night.
“I can’t speak to the motivation for them drinking on a Monday night,” noted Shelkie. “If it is a holiday, then the Monday is kind of like a Sunday and most people have to go back to work the next day so I can’t speak to why these people would decided to be drinking on a Monday night.”
“It’s dangerous for other motorists and pedestrians out on the street and that it could significantly impact you if you are stopped by the police.”
