Radio NL’s 6th annual Radiothon collected $236,000 for the RIH Foundation.
Foundation CEO Heidi Coleman says all donors from different walks of life and different financial circumstances make days like this happen.
She says she’s always touched when someone will call and buy a piece of equipment that they will never use in their lifetime. “They’re not saying I am just going to buy that so it’s there for when I need it, it’s not coming from that part of their soul, no they’re buying it because they know that other people need it and they have the wealth and they’re able to. So we have that kind of donor and then we ave the people we saw today that called in with $10, $20, $50, $100 donations and all of that works together.”
Coleman says it was amazing to see the support from the community.
RIH Executive Director Tracey Rannie says we’re very fortunate to have such a generous community. “These donations are really important. The hospital serves quite a geographical region. So it serves our local community, but it also serves our surrounding region. All the way up to Williams Lake, Lytton, Lillooet all the way out to Revelstoke. So it is really important that we serve all those patients and families.”
Rannie says the work never stops as the hospital is always operating and it always needs support.
The goal was to raise $1 million over the six years of Radiothon and with Thursday’s total, we were able to reach that target.
