The Thompson Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) wants to add a third library branch in the city of Kamloops.
Board members at the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) approved a staff recommendation to start looking for potential locations for this library in the southwest area of the city.
“We’re committed to improving library services throughout the Regional District,” said Chief Librarian, Judy Moore. “We’re so delighted to have the support of the TNRD Board for this important next step in making the dream of a third library location a reality for the residents of South Kamloops.”
The regional library is eyeing the Sahali-Aberdeen-Pineview areas where growth is expected to be significant.
“As part of the TNRL’s Facilities Master Plan, a new library was identified as the first key priority,” Moore noted, adding they’re looking for a 25,000-square-foot site as the mobile library will also be parked there when it is not in use.
Currently, there are two libraries in Kamloops – one in the TNRD building downtown at Fifth Avenue and Victoria Street and one at Tranquille Road and Renfrew Avenue on the North Shore.
