Kamloops RCMP caught a bike thief red-handed after seeing him drive away from a store early Sunday morning.
Police say a man was arrested during a routine traffic stop at around 2:00 am on March, 1st. Officers observed a car leaving a commercial parking lot at high speed without its lights on. Police pulled the vehicle over and noted there was what appeared to be a brand new bike on a rack attached the car. There was a sticker from the store which the vehicle was seen leaving on the bike.
Another officer was then called to attend the store and investigate. It was found that the business had been broken into and the owners were not even aware yet. The driver was then arrested and the bike returned to the store owners.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie attributed the quick work of police to routine patrols by officers. “This was a quick and successful outcome to a break and enter.”
