The Kelson Group says it has plans for a new multi-family rental development in downtown Kamloops.

Vice president Jason Fawcett says more details are expected later this year.

He talked about the state of the rental market in Kamloops, while speaking about new housing Kelson Group is building on the Thompson Rivers University campus.

“Throughout our buildings throughout Kamloops, there is a low vacancy. It is still tough for renters… The good news for renters is there’s been a ton of new buildings that have opened up, from Valleyview to Aberdeen and the North Shore. And around campus, including another complex right across the street on McGill. There’s been more choice for renters, so that’s positive.

“We do believe that this new supply will provide more choices and that will ultimately be better for people that decide to move here and live here. So we’re happy to be a part of that.”

The Kelson Group has managed rental buildings for more than 40 years, and now manages 25 in the Tournament Capital and 70 altogether in B.C. and Alberta.
