Get ready for a winter wallop on the Coquihalla between Merritt and Hope starting later today.
Environment Canada forecaster Doug Lundquist says the Coquihalla Summit will see up to 20 centimetres of snow from late this afternoon to tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, “0n the Merritt-to-Kamloops and Merritt-to-Kelowna sections of the Coquihalla, different weather,” Lundquist says. “A lot less snow but there’s going to be gusting winds. We could have southwest winds of 40, maybe gusting to 70, causing local blowing snow and the likes. So it’s a pretty vigorous little system. Some interesting weather on the high terrain and maybe even in the valley with some gusty winds as well.”
Lundquist says the Rogers Pass on Highway 1 will see heavy snow starting late tonight, with possibly up to 20 centimetres falling by tomorrow as well.
The forecast says to expect “quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions” in these locations.
