Police and the BC Coroners Service are investigating after a man was found dead at what appeared to be a homeless camp that caught fire in Salmon Arm early this morning.
RCMP say when first responders got to the scene in the 1700-block of 10th Avenue Southwest, they found it fully engulfed in flames. They say witnesses reported explosions which were likely due to the propane tanks and fuel containers at the scene.
“The body of a deceased male was discovered by fire crews inside the structure,” said Salmon RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott West. “At this time criminality is not suspected in the man’s sudden death, our next steps will be to obtain a positive identification and notify his next of kin.”
West says the man’s name will not be released, citing privacy reasons under the Coroners Act.
He notes police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact the Salmon Arm RCMP.
