A BC Lawyer has filed a one billion dollar class action lawsuit against the province and ICBC on behalf of all publicly insured drivers.
Scott Stanley is heading up the class action law suit. Speaking on the NL Morning News, he says it came about after seeing continuous trends with how money was being paid out to victims. “When you represent victims, just noticed that they weren’t getting their full compliment of benefits. And When you look at the transcript you see things on there like MSP payments, whats that all about? And it just took a very, very, extraordinarily long time to figure out what was happening. Trying to determine whether or not this was a mistake or a little glitch.”
Stanley says you then realize that this is a complicated system designed to remove money from ICBC and put it into the hands of government for doctor costs. He is now waiting to see if the suit will be certified.
“Interesting we have the Liberals and the NDP debating whether we or not government should be able to remove capital from crown corporations, and I think that’s an important debate to have in the public domain, but neither are talking about the this arrangement that we’ve alleged in this lawsuit that where money is being taken out in a less than transparent way.”
Stanley hopes the province will undertake a legal analysis and reach the same conclusion. He hopes the response will be one where they look after victims and restore confidence in ICBC.
