Another feather in the cap for Kamloops Blazers forward Connor Zary as he was named the WHL’s Player of the Week for the weekend ending March 8.
In four games this week, the NHL draft eligible forward put up nine points (4G, 5A) and a plus-nine rating as the Blazers clinched their first B.C. Division title since 2012.
Zary had an assist in Kamloops’ 4-2 home win over the Vancouver Giants on Wednesday. In Friday’s 6-3 home win against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, he scored a hat trick and was named third-star on the night.
And then in two games against the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, Washington, Zary recorded two assists in an 8-1 win on Saturday, and a goal and two assists in a 6-1 win on Sunday, en route to being named Sunday’s second star on the night.
Through that stretch of games, the Saskatoon native saw his point streak extend to eight games, with 17 points (7G-10A) in that span. As it stands, Zary is fifth in the WHL’s scoring race, with 86 points (38G, 48A) in 56 games.
It’s Zary’s first player of the week honour, after being named WHL player of the month in October. He joins line mates Zane Franklin (Jan 19) and Orrin Centazzo (Dec 29) who have also won Player of the Week honours this season.
The Blazers will wrap up play against the WHL’s U.S. Division in their next game, facing the Spokane Chiefs on Tuesday, March 10 (7:05 p.m. PT) at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
