Kamloops RCMP say 156 violation tickets were issued for drivers in Kamloops on Friday on Columbia Street, Lansdowne Street, and on Tranquille Road.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says 88 tickets were given to people who were using an electronic device while driving, while 50 were for people who were not wearing a seat belt in their vehicles.
The other 18 tickets were for other traffic infractions including littering from a motor vehicle, and driving without a licence or with no insurance.
“Fatal and serious injury motor vehicle collisions due to distracted driving are completely preventable,” said Shelkie, in a release. “The RCMP reminds drivers to keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.”
She says officers will be focusing on distracted driving and seat belt use throughout the month of March.
