The first coronavirus death in B.C. and Canada has been confirmed.
The victim is a senior at the Lynn Valley Care Home in North Vancouver, one of two people who was diagnosed with the virus last week.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says the man passed away on Sunday night.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones and also of course to the staff that provided him care, and to his home at the Lynn Valley Care Centre,” Henry said today.
In all, there are 32 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in B.C., as two additional residents at the home have also tested positive for the virus.
Henry says another health care worker – a woman in her 40’s in the Fraser Health Region – has also tested positive for the virus. She remains at home in isolation.
Officials have also identified two close contacts of B.C.’s first known case of community transmission of COVID-19, and both those people are being monitored in isolation.
More to come.
