Fortis BC says broken gas lines were up in the province last year and the most frustrating thing about it is, almost all of the incidents were avoidable
The gas company dealt with 1,069 separate incidents last year with 29 of those occurring right here in Kamloops.
Ian Turnbull, Damage Prevention & Emergency Services Manager for Fortis BC was on NL Newsday and said if those people had dialed (BC One Call) or clicked online before they dug, everything would’ve been fine. “When we look at that little over a thousand damages that have occurred, more that 60 percent of people hadn’t made the BC One call ticket to begin with.”
“Over 600 of those people, if they had the ticket in hand had the information, I’m pretty sure that they would have be able to avoid damaging our system.”
Turnbull says if you do rupture a gas line, you should either call Fortis BC’s emergency line or call 911 immediately.
There’s a seminar set for Tuesday March 10 at the Coast Hotel that’s geared toward contractors but anyone can attend if you’re willing to pay.
