The Vice President of the Kamloops Centre for the Arts Society says Kamloopsians can’t get complacent as the April 4 referendum draws closer.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Brenda Aynsley says people can’t assume that this year’s referendum will be successful.
“It would be our enemy that people think, ‘ah, this is going to happen this time.’ We can’t let that happen,” she said. “Think how incredible it would be if we had a 70 per cent successful referendum voting yes.”
“We know the neighbourhoods where it was very close or we missed it. This is just our opportunity to get out in full force and vote yes on something that will really make a difference in Kamloops.”
Aynsley says Kamloopsians might see lawn signs across the city, noting that volunteers will also be going around the city with information about the project.
“The city, they’ve got a campaign going called ‘Your Voice, Your Vote’. They’re not saying vote yes, we are,” she said. “But that will be a mail drop to residents in the city. And then of course, we’re going to be dropping off information door to door. If people want any more information, they’re asked to contact us.”
The failed referendum in 2015 saw about a 32 per cent voter turnout, with about 54 per cent of people who voted said no.
