As the province bans gatherings with more than 250 people, the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra is putting all events planned for next month on hold.
Executive Director Daniel Mills says that includes ‘An Evening with Eleanor Wachtel’ on April 3rd and ‘Luminous Voices’ on April 11th.
He says there are no KSO events in March, noting they’re evaluating all of their options.
“In the event of cancellation, it would mean unfortunately that our musicians probably would not get paid for those concerts, which of course is a big loss for them,” Mills said.
“But it may have to be the thing we have to do to, due to the directives and unfortunately for us it means ceasing our programming for the time-being.”
KSO will update all ticket holders of the status of both events and inform them of their options, but Mills says they are open to postponing its events into the summer, if needed.
“Depending on what is available and what might unfold regarding the whole situation. As of now, there is no clear timelines as to how long this may last, although we hear speculation about where the peak might fall, and we expect that any ban would only be lifted after that point, he noted.
At this time, the Barb’s Used Book Sale, set to begin on March 21 will go ahead as planned, though he KSO is monitoring the situation.
“Due to high call volumes at the Kamloops Live Box Office involving other ticketed events in the immediate future, we ask that you please refrain from calling them regarding Kamloops Symphony Events for the next few days, if possible,” added KSO spokesperson Ryan Noakes.
“Our priority remains the health of all our patrons, artists, crew and staff and we urge everyone to take precaution in monitoring their well-being.”
