The City of Kamloops has activated its emergency operations centre amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
In a news release, it says it’s looking at how public facilities, programs and services will be impacted by the province’s decision to restrict all gatherings with more than 50 people.
“We are working with the ministry to review options for the upcoming referendum. We will have an update for employees and the public as soon as possible,” the statement says.
It says surfaces and public areas will have increased cleaning, and it is encouraging social distancing and employees who feel sick to stay home.
Apart from closing hot tubs, saunas and steamrooms, all public facilities in Kamloops are still open. The city says it is monitoring that situation, as well as how the Kamloops Centre for the Arts referendum on April 4 could be impacted.
“We will continue to monitor the spread and seriousness of this virus and update our processes as required,” the news release goes on to say.
Community and protective services director Byron McCorkell tells NL News more information is expected to come forward through a statement from the mayor’s office.
