The Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame banquet and sports council awards banquet has been postponed until the fall due to COVID-19.
It was originally set to happen on May 23 at the Coast Hotel and Conference Centre.
Kamloops Sports Council Executive Director Duncan Olthuis says the talk of moving the event ramped up over the last few days.
“That was about the start of this week really when everything started to shut down and the new announcement about no gatherings larger than 50 people,” he told NL Sports. “Even when the announcement was 250 people, we knew we were in trouble with that banquet because we get close to 400.”
“Its all about the safety of the public, and so we’ve decided to postpone it.”
The Class of 2020 includes hockey coach Terry Bangen, figure staker Kim Scott Kryger, soccer referee Michelle Pye, the Eve Skakun curling rinks from the 90’s curler Ray Olsen, and football’s Brad Yamaoka.
