Despite COVID-19 needing all hands on deck for a response, the Thompson Nicola Regional District is still planning for flood prevention this spring.
Speaking on the Jeff Andreas Show, CAO Randy Diehl says the regional district is aware that the snow load is generally higher than normal in most places.
“In terms of the freshet, the large freshet coming down the Thompson and the Fraser rivers, those are the kinds of events we can prepare for in advance, and we’re watching them very closely. It’s the flash floods that are a challenge for us, and so we’re getting ahead of the curve by making sure sandbags and gunny sacks are delivered to problem-areas.”
Flash floods have especially hit areas hard near Cache Creek, Clinton and Loon Lake in recent years.
