With businesses of all sorts closing their doors because of COVID-19, one of our MLA’s is giving credit to local business owners
Kamloops North Thompson MLA Peter Milobar said on the NL Morning News he’s seeing many local entrepreneurs doing as much as they can under the circumstances.
“Business owners get characterized sometimes as uncaring and what I’m hearing and seeing from the business community is the exact opposite where employers are trying to bridge the difference in pay for certain people,” he said.
“They’re trying to keep people on staff as long as possible. not lay them off until programs are in place for them to access.”
Milobar thinks business owners are simply trying to do their part as best they can with the resources they have.
“We need to make that government programs are matching that support and helping the owners of the businesses so there’s a business for people to go back to and to work at when this is all over,” he added.
And he also says people need to take this virus and the advice from Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, very seriously and social distance from one another and instead use things like Skype to stay in touch with people.
