The BC Wildfire Service is making progress on a 150 hectare wildfire north of Lytton, between Highway 12 and Highway 1.
Information officer Taylor MacDonald says the Alkaki Road fire has been burning since Saturday, and she says crews fighting it have been helped by rain that has come down.
“There’s kind of some natural containment lines in the area, such as trails and roads, and crews are working to establish more of those on site,” she said, noting that overnight precipitation will help the 11 BC Wildfire Service personnel who are continuing response efforts on site today.
Macdonald says the fire is one seven that started over the weekend in the Kamloops area.
Besides the Alkaki Road fire, all others are under control, and Macdonald says all are suspected to be human-caused.
“With kind of warmer conditions that we saw towards the end of last week, we wanted to put out a reminder over the weekend to those who were planning to go out and do some burning in the area,” she added. “Just to be careful, with those higher temperaturs at the valley bottom.”
