A Kamloops Councillor is echoing a statement from Mayor Ken Christian that the city will not hesitate to close other public facilities if people aren’t staying away from each other.
Arjun Singh says most people are following guidelines from the provincial health officer, but its a few that still aren’t getting the message.
“This idea of us being physically distant is so so important right now,” he said. “Every day new things are happening so we kind of have to keep an eye on that and make sure that we’re listening to all the advice from the provincial health officers.”
Asked what other facilities the city could close, Singh did not have a list, but says council will let people know as soon as something has to be closed.
“I’m not aware of anything else at the moment,” he added. “Parks are still open. The Rivers Trail is still open. There is a lot of outside activity people can be doing, if they are doing it in smaller, family groups.”
Singh was speaking on the NL Morning News, a day after the city closed Hillside Stadium because people were not social distancing from one another
“We closed down our playgrounds because we couldn’t really ensure that they were as clean as we’d like them to be.,” Singh said. “With Hillside Stadium, it was the same thing. There was enough people that we had some concerns around just making sure that we were doing our part to help people maintain physical distances.”
