The Province has identified some possible solutions to address challenges faced by housing sites to minimize the community spread of COVID-19 and the City of Kamloops will review those initiatives.
Mayor Ken Christian says those include identifying alternative locations for shelter residents that allow for proper physical distancing as well as the isolation of high risk or symptomatic individuals.
“Myself and council are still very concerned about those in our community that are homeless, under-housed, people with complex care needs, people with mental health issues and substance abuse issues,” he said, in a video update.
“So, we are working on strategies with BC Housing to be able to make alternative arrangements for those individuals.”
When it comes to capital projects, Christian says projects underway like Victoria Street and the Westsyde Pool are going to continue.
“We have two groundwater wells up in Aberdeen that we are going to start working on. We have a berm at the Mission Flats landfill we need to repair,” added Christian. “As well as backup power for the Kamloops Centre for Water Quality. The other projects are on hold until council has a chance to reevaluate them.”
Christian says council will discuss which projects are necessary and which one’s will possibly be postponed, noting there is a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 7.
