The owner of Munden Ventures ltd, a Kamloops Trucking Company, is trying to help feed truckers while also supporting the food truck industry.
Speaking on The Jeff Andreas Show, Greg Munden says he has been hearing from truckers who are having concerns about accessing food, so he had an idea of station food trucks at locations that would be easily accessible to truck drivers.
“We talked with Chevron about it, and just really on a local basis seeing if we could use their local fueling station or local commercial cardlock to locate one or two food trucks to at least solve the problem locally, or assist with the problem I guess. They were immediately supportive of the idea.”
Munden says Chevron then ran the idea up the leadership chain and they decided they could open up their cardlocks across the province to expand the proposal. He adds there has been a huge response from the food truck sector.
“I’m getting calls constantly about people interested in participating in the program. Very important for us to get the message out both to the truck drivers and the food truck industry to get some momentum about it,” added Munden.
“Sort of having the idea of mobilizing food trucks, which obviously the food truck business is at a stand still now and they should be going into their busy season. The idea of seeing if we can mobilize those trucks in some way to be able to provide food to the truck drivers.”
BC’s Provincial Health Officer spoke about truck drivers during her daily press conference on Wednesday and talked about concerns around personal hygiene and the ability of those in the industry to wash their hands.
“I’m hearing stories of this both for essential workers and for people living on the street, the challenges they face about doing things around personal hygiene. I know there have been provisions put in place in many places and the important things are to be able to have the hand washing abilities, facilities, being able to clean the bathrooms.”
“To make sure that these facilities can be open for people. Again, restaurants may be closed, but the ability to have take-out and ensure that there are cleaning products available to be able to clean their environment, but also wash their hands and be able to maintain their personal hygiene along these very essential and important routes.”
Munden adds that the Versatile Drive location will have Cook Shack Cravings and there is also another one launching in Chilliwack at the Chevron and he is currently working with food trucks for Vernon, Kelowna and possibly Salmon Arm.
