It’s an unusual time for street crews to go from street sweeping to snow clearing, but Kamloops city staff say the concept is nothing new.
Streets manager Glen Farrow points out this kind of back-and-forth from spring to winter happens every year, just not usually this far into the spring.
He says snow clearing is happening in full force.
“So currently we have a truck in each one of our 10 zones throughout the city. So that’s what we’re focusing on right now. That one truck in each zone is currently focused on the arterial (routes). We’ll be shifting into collectors and bus routes once they’re working good,” Farrow says.
“Usually at this time of year we’re focusing on the odd pot hole and street sweeping. So last night we were street sweeping but we were also plowing snow, and then we went to shift change at 8 a.m. this morning the shift was definitely away from sweeping and to snow and ice control.”
Farrow says streets near the valley bottom that have already been swept won’t have to have that work re-done.
He says that’s because crews are laying salt in those places today instead of sand.
