The Nature Conservancy of Canada is closing all of its publicly accessible conservation sites and trails until further notice because of COVID-19.
In the Kamloops area, that includes the Lac du Bois Conservation Area, Rattlesnake Bluffs along Ord Road, and the Napier Lake Ranch Conservation Area in the Nicola Valley.
“We urge residents to follow public health advisories and stay at home and respect physical distancing guidelines at all times,” said John Lounds, the President and CEO of the Nature Conservancy of Canada. “We sincerely hope that by taking these steps now, everyone can get back to enjoying these conservation areas and trails as soon as possible.”
The announcement comes one day after the B.C. government closed all provincial parks, with the Easter Long Weekend around the corner.
“We know nature is important in our lives and good for our health and well-being, especially in stressful times. Many of our properties are popular with nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.,” said Nancy Newhouse, the Nature Conservancy’s BC Regional Vice-President.
“This closure is necessary, as together we protect our communities and do our part to flatten the curve.”
Kamloops City parks remain open for now, and Mayor Ken Christian says they will remain open as long as people comply with public health orders regarding physical distancing.
“If physical distancing measures are not adhered to, further action may be required,” Christian said.
