If you want a ticket to this year’s Kamloops Y Dream Home lottery, you’ll have to act fast.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Spokesperson Bryce Herman says the lottery is already about 90 per cent sold out. Value packs are already sold out, and Herman says he never expected to see such a rapid sale of online-only tickets just one week in, due to concerns around COVID-19.
“Certainly under the circumstances, you know with where everything is in the world,” he said. “It absolutely came out of the gates with a blaze and it has not stopped. It has just been going faster than we could have possibly imagined, so this lottery is definitely going to sell out.”
With some of the economic concerns because of the pandemic, Herman admits he had many sleepless nights coming into this Dream Home Lottery.
“We had no idea what’s going to happen. We had to go 100 per cent online. You know, there is a pandemic, lets be honest,” he said. “I mean, there’s a lot of things going on in the world. None of us knows what tomorrow brings in many ways.”
And Herman says he is grateful for the people who have supported the lottery this year.
“To get that kind of support from out community – ticket purchasers, the people that have just been astounding supporters for multiple years, and to come out with that kind of support is just unbelievable,” he said. “I mean, it really restores your face in humanity and gets you to understand that there are people out there.”
The 50/50 jackpot is currently sitting at about $126,000 going to the winner. Those tickets are still available, and the jackpot will be capped at $200,000.
This year’s dream home is in the Orchards Walk subdivision in Valleyview, and it is valued at just under $700,000. Tickets will be sold online until June 29, and the prizes will be drawn on July 8.
