The mayor of Kamloops says a federal spending plan on infrastructure plan will be needed for local communities during this pandemic.
Ken Christian says streamlining capital projects will lead to more economic activity in places like Kamloops when threat of COVID-19 starts to ease.
“Will there be components of support for the arts, for instance. For infrastructure, for bridges, for roads. For the kinds of things that, generally, governments use to get themselves out of these kinds of situations… That will help invest back in Canada, in British Columbia and in Kamloops, in terms of projects.”
Christian says he hopes the Federation of Canadian Municipalities is lobbying the House of Commons on behalf of local government.
And on that note, Christian will be asking other council members to nominate councillor Arjun Singh for the FCM board of director, for the term from June 2020 to June 2021. Singh is a past president of the Union of B.C. Municipalities, and has been a city councillor for 12 years.
