The independent police watchdog is investigating an incident near Sicamous, after an “interaction” between a man with outstanding arrest warrants and an RCMP officer led to both people being taken to hospital with injuries.
Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says police were made aware of a suspicious person on a forest service road yesterday just before noon, off of Highway 97A near Sicamous. She says police were led to a man with outstanding arrest warrants, and
RCMP officers from Sicamous, Revelstoke and Salmon Arm managed to stop the man after he had crashed his vehicle, after he refused to pull over for police.
“During the course of taking the man into custody, there was interaction between an officer and the man, both of whom were injured,” Shoihet says in a news release.
Details of that “interaction” are unclear, and NL News has asked Shoihet for clarity. The officer is now at home recovering from injuries, and the suspect is recovering in police custody.
Shoihet says the Sicamous RCMP is investigating “criminal-code and driving infractions.”
The Independent Investigation Office of B.C. is now looking into whether police actions caused injuries in this case.
