If you’re trying to make vacation plans this summer, your options may be limited as the province’s top doctor doesn’t see the 50 person limit on gatherings being lifted any time soon.
Dr Bonnie Henry says those types of events are risky and we have had a lot of cases associated with large events like sports, conferences and concerts, so those types of things will not be happening this summer.
“Planning weddings, we can still have these events but we have to think about doing them in a different way right now. Graduation from high school, it is not going to be a big party where everyone gets together because that’s too risky. It means that you might spread this and if you have all of those contacts it means they’re going to bring it home to their families and their loved ones.”
“I have full confidence that universities will be open next year, but it may be more of the virtual model that we saw at the end of this year. So I think we need to think about that for the next year, things will be different.”
“Doesn’t mean that we have to give up everything and that we’re going to be in the same place we are right now. I absolutely think we have some space, some space to open things up, to be able to connect with people, but not on those large scale events.”
Henry says when we get to that point, in a year or 18 months, she is “looking forward to a really big party.”
