Interior Health has hired a medical health officer in Kamloops in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
That’s according to mayor Ken Christian, who was speaking to media from the steps of city hall late on Wednesday morning.
“It’s going to be a little too late for this particular even, but they have,” Christian says, referencing the COVID-19 pandemic we are in the middle of. “I spoke with Susan Brown, the president and Chief Executive Officer of Interior Health, and she advised that they had hired a chief medical officer who will be deployed to Kamloops.”
Christian says it’s unclear when this person would start in Kamloops, but he indicates the hiring is encouraging.
“Interior Health made a decision about a decade ago to amalgamate their medical health officers into their Kelowna office… Kamloops is a city of 100,000, we should not be without a medical health officer. We need one, we’ve needed one, and we especially need one today.”
NL News has reached out to Interior Health for more details.

It’s unclear when the new MHO would start in #Kamloops. Mayor Christian says @Interior_Health amalgamated the position with Kelowna about 10 years ago, and is encouraged by this news. “We are a city with 100,000 people. We need a medical health officer.”
