Health Officials in B.C. say there are 29 new test positive cases of COVID-19 and four new deaths in the province to report today, for a total of 1,853 cases.
Two of those cases are in the Interior Health area, which now has 158 cases. All four deaths today were either in the Fraser Health or Vancouver Coaster Health areas – for a total of 98 people who have succumbed to this virus.
“While our weekends are a time to unwind and relax, the exception is with these important health measures,” said Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.
“As you get outside and safely spend time with loved ones, let’s continue to stay strong and show care and compassion to those around us, by ensuring we do not undo all of our hard work and sacrifice.”
There are 96 people in hospital, 41 in intensive care – both those numbers are down from yesterday’s update, which had 103 in hospital and 44 in ICU.
There are no new outbreaks in long-term care, assisted living or acute care homes to report, with 20 facilities and three acute-care units with active outbreaks. Officials are also monitoring several outbreaks across the province.
“As of today, two employees have been confirmed positive at Superior Poultry in Coquitlam, and 35 employees have now been confirmed positive at United Poultry in Vancouver,” said Henry. “Additionally, there are 10 confirmed positive cases connected to the Kearl Lake project in Alberta and 78 inmates and staff confirmed positive at the Mission Institution federal correctional centre.”
As of Friday afternoon, 1,114 people are considered to have fully recovered from COVID-19, according to Henry.
