UPDATE: April 25, 1 p.m.
Kamloops RCMP say an arrest was made last night after a driver crashed into a power pole on Tranquille Road, and knocked out power for several thousand people.
Staff Sgt. Sacsha Fesenko says police had tried to pull over a silver sedan in the 1400-block of Tranquille Rd at about 5:30 p.m., before the crash happened. Fesenko says the driver refused to stop, before crashing into the power pole several blocks away, near the intersection with Fortune Drive.
A female driver fled the scene but was arrested at a nearby home a short time later, Fesenko says.
Further circumstances are not clear on why police were trying to pull the car over, or on any factors that may have led to the crash.
More than 3,500 BC Hydro customers were without power for more than two hours after the crash.
Mounties ask anyone with information of the crash to call Kamloops RCMP.
