If you post on social media about police activities, the Superintendent of the Kamloops RCMP has a message for you – don’t.
While on the NL Morning News, Syd Lecky said posting police locations on platforms like Facebook and Twitter can do a lot of harm.
“We recently had an event where police were responding to what was a very dangerous situation,” he said. “And we had people with social media that were live broadcasting our positions and locations and that sort of thing.”
He said live broadcasting police positions and locations is a bad idea for everybody and he’s clearly not happy about it.
“That is a risk for us and I would ask that people, you know, when you see police out doing there thing, respect that because that puts you and I at risk,” Lecky said.
On the issue of alerting the public if the situation requires it, police will be using radio and television to get that message out.
