The B.C. River Forecast Centre has issued a high streamflow advisory for the Upper Nicola River above Nicola Lake, east of Merritt.
It’s because snowmelt rates have increased in the last day or two, with mid-elevation snow now expected to melt over the next one-to-two weeks.
A flood watch remains in place for Cache Creek, the Bonaparte River and surrounding areas, while the River Forecast Centre has also maintained a high streamflow advisory for the Salmon River near Salmon Arm.
As of early Friday morning, the Bonaparte River was flowing at 62 m3/s – a 10-year to 20-year flow, and is slowly receding. The Nicola River at Douglas Lake is flowing at 38.5 m3/s with flows holding steady.
The centre says over the weekend the water levels in the rivers could rise with marginally warming temperatures and the possibility of rain in the forecast.
