The city of Kamloops will begin construction on the Tranquille Sanitary Main project next Monday, May 11.
Crews will be replacing the sanitary main on Tranquille Road from Southill Street to 12th Street, at a cost of around $13 million.
“This phase will require complete closure of Tranquille Road from Southill Street to Desmond Street, with a detour via Gelrich Avenue,” said Capital Projects Manager, Darren Crundwell. “Transit will be rerouted to Greenfield Avenue, and stops will be temporarily relocated.”
This second phase of the project was expected to start in March, but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Crundwell says work is now expected to be completed in summer 2021, instead of the anticipated November 2020 completion date.
“In addition to replacing the sanitary gravity main, proposed upgrades along the corridor include pedestrian paths, landscaping, and intersection and boulevard improvements,” Crundwell noted. “This scope of work has also been impacted by the pandemic, and updated design details will be available in the coming weeks.”
He previously told NL News that crews are expecting fewer impacts to area residents and businesses compared to work that was done on the Victoria Street West corridor last year.
The first phase of the project, west of Crestline Street towards the airport, was done in 2017.
The City of Kamloops has also applied for $12 million in grant funding to pay for a portion of Phase 3 of the project, which is set to get underway in 2025, from Crestline Street to Southill Street.
More to come.
