The President of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce says it’s great that things can start opening soon, but the uncertainty of knowing exactly how to do that is causing some anxiety.
Tyson Andrykew says things like occupancy limits will have to be ironed out.
He says for a lot of restaurants it may not be worth it for them to open if they can only open up to half capacity. “Sometimes the kitchen is set up in such a way that they can’t operate at 50 per cent. It requires too many cooks in the kitchen if you will to actually put a meal together and to run all the stations. If they’re only allowed to have 50 per cent of their customer base through the door it won’t work for them.”
Andrykew says there is a shortage on details for specific industries. “Uncertainty is hard for everyone and when you’re trying to operate a business and plan what it looks like, the uncertainty of when you can start doing that is a real killer and there’s a lot of anxiety built up from that.”
“There will be some businesses that will likely will have to retool how their store flows and how their business operates if they’re able to make a go of it in that initial phase.”
Provincial Health Officer Dr Bonnie Henry has previously said that each business won’t have to submit a reopening plan, but one will need to be posted so people know the measures being taken to keep staff and customers safe.
